I just love it when a European legal body forces companies to give consumers a better deal...

Following news from Orange and 3 that they were relenting to the EC's enforced roaming cuts, BT Mobile and T-Mobile have also agreed to bow their heads.

BT Mobile customers from today onwards will start receiving messages saying: "Good news on 30.8.07 BT Mobile roaming calls between EU countries will reduce to 38ppm to make and 19ppm to receive a call. Visit www.bt.com/btmobile/roaming"

Likewise mass messaging from T-Mobile began today with the network informing customers "Good News, from 30th August it will cost T-Mobile customers less to make a call whilst in Europe. For full details and terms see t-mobile.co.uk/euroaming". Less helpful, but if you follow the link you'll discover *shock+horror* that making calls will drop to 38ppm and receiving them is reduced to 19ppm. What a co-incidence!

Sadly, the EU failed to rule on SMS pricing so both firms haven't made any concessions there and they will each remain 40p to send.

Sadly, the cuts come too late for me (I'm off on holiday next week leaving you in the hands of my able deputy Hugo) – I return 13th August. Darn you mobile companies – you (just) got the last laugh!
