While speculation about the iPhone's choice of European network has slowed down in recent weeks there have still been a number of interesting developments.

This week Vodafone was at the heart of web chitter-chatter on two fronts. First up is cryptic news from the mouth of company CEO Arun Sarin who said in a conference call to journalists:

"It's clearly a good, software-driven device, but we're concerned about wideband area coverage so that 3G or HSDPA connectivity with the iPhone is something that we look forward to."

Does he know something? Either way I think it is safe to say we'll see an HSDPA equipped iPhone sooner rather than later – just how much sooner...?

Also causing a stir is news that the iPhone can be made to work on Vodafone. The process isn't straightforward, but was achieved by buying the handset and an AT&T sim card from eBay, putting the sim into an O2 handset and then getting Vodafone to validate it for a Vodafone contract. Consequently the sim passes the iPhone's AT&T criteria and works in the UK. Apparently everything works other than visual voicemail which is a predictable bust.

So if you've got the fanboyish enthusiasm for it, you now have a recipe...

Personally, I still just want to see touchscreen iPods!
