While the iPhone is without doubt the hottest piece of technology on (some of) the market right now just like an iPod its codec support is extremely limited.

To this end diddy firm Innovative Solutions has become the first of what will surely be a long list of companies to bring out dedicated video conversion software for Apple's latest and probably greatest device.

'DVD-to-iPhone 1.0' is the rather literal name given to the app but it is a name which doesn't do full justice to the feature set since as well as pre-recorded and recordable DVDs, the software can also convert from AVI and Mpeg formats and can get underway in just two clicks. Conversion should be fast too with Innovative quoting only 30 minutes to transfer a 90 minute DVD though, vitally, it doesn't specify the reference system it used to achieve this.

Either way however the result is H.264 encoded 480 x 320 compatible iPhone content and while Innovative certainly won't be the last company to come up with such a tool that doesn't make it any less useful. DVD-to-iPhone 1.0 is available now for download and comes with a free trial period after which you'll have to part with 29.95 euros (a pittance compared with re-purchasing all your favourite flicks from iTunes).

In related news the company is also the first to outwardly market an iPhone-a-like skin for Windows Mobile devices. Numerous amateur coded skins have already appeared around the web but Innovative gives it the professional (and possibly legal) treatment via it's iLaunch download. Frustrated/financially challenged iPhonatics can grab it now for 9.95 euros...
