As expected there has been a huge amount of speculation about the launch of the iPhone (I even bothered to write about one ruse), but now we know for sure…

As the screen grab above shows from one of the three ads Apple just released online (apparently one also featured in a commercial break during hit US show 60 Minutes) 29 June is the day the tech world goes crazy.

Interestingly for lucky (or not so lucky depending on the importance you place on 3G and a decent integrated camera) US citizens (we still don’t have a UK release time frame or even a confirmed carrier) Apple is advising potential owners they’ll have a better chance of nabbing a device by going direct to AT&T’s website than visiting its own – where I suspect service will be more farcical than this year’s Glastonbury ticket sales (yes, I didn’t get any and I remain bitter).

If you don’t live in the States however don’t worry. Apple has always traditionally put its own country first and I suspect once the dust settles, European – and possibly global – launch details won’t be far behind.

Finally, if all this still hasn’t cheered anyone living outside the US then take solace from the 4GB and 8GB models’ hefty price tags ($499 and $599) and compulsory two year contracts and – whatever you do – don't look at that purrrrrty interface….
