It is the most talked about gadget of 2007 (and possibly 2006) and now it's nearly here...

Last week the Apple iPhone was given the green light by the Federal Communications Commission which means it has now passed all prerequisite industry checks and can be thrown in its millions at the US nation.

Despite infamous rumours to the contrary therefore the iPhone remains on target for its June launch via network AT&T. By contrast, despite it being five full months since Steve Jobs unveiled the stunning, if slightly flawed, handset Apple has yet to give any indication when – or with whom - it will release the iPhone in Europe.

Current industry rumour continues to suggest T-Mobile, thanks to its pan-European reach, remains in the hot seat despite initial rumblings that Vodafone was the likely partner.

At this point I would usually provide you with a technical refresh of the product, but this is the iPhone we're talking about and I'm sure you all have the details indelibly etched into your brain. So here's the brief version: large touch screen, funky interface, iPod, Safari and Google Maps integrated, 2MP camera, no 3G.

By now you'll all have made the decision on whether you're prepared to hop on the iPhone bandwagon or not. If not you've got a little less time to make up your minds...
