LG is determined to make its ‘Shine’ the 2007 equivalent of its much heralded Chocolate and if today’s announcement really emphasises that determination.

Codenamed the ‘KU970’, the Shine version 2.0 will look identical to its forebear but make some very handy internal improvements. First on the menu is HSDPA in all its 1.8Mbps goodness coupled with a second VGA camera for video calls. Secondly the multimedia aspects of the handset will receive a boost from an as yet unspecified increase to system memory (the original has 1GB, so... err... 2GB?). Other than that all is as you were.

This means the KU970 will still be a slinky 13m thick handset with a 2.2in QVGA screen and 2MP camera. It will still weigh a portable 115g and you’ll still probably be a banker, stock trader, estate agent and/or Audi TT owner if you buy one. In 2008 you can replace that list with hairdresser, beauty therapist, secretary and/or Toyota MR2 driver.

There’s no word on when we’ll see the KU970 but Q2 seems just far enough in the future to annoy those who shell out on the original Shine so it has my bet...
