I associate many things with Toshiba and none of them are even remotely associated with mobile phones, but this looks all set to change.

The 3GSM unveiled ‘G900’ is a horizontally sliding smartphone with a remarkable 3in 800 x 480 (WVGA) resolution screen which should finally be enough to see web pages in their full native glory. While backing up this surfability is the all-crucial (iPhone absent) HSDPA.

Elsewhere a two megapixel camera is no great shakes and neither is the 64MB of internal memory (expandable via miniSD), but there is 802.11b/g wireless and Bluetooth with A2DP support. I’d like some dimensions and a weight figure here since the G900 does look hefty but good things come to those prepared to put up with a little foreplay. Wait. What?

Moving swiftly on we also find Tosh showing off the ‘E01’, a slider that also manages HSDPA, A2DP Bluetooth and sports a 2MP camera. The downside is the display only manages 65k colours which is a little disappointing in these days of 262k screens. Still, rumour has it Vodafone is showing Toshiba the love for both these handsets and we should see them hitting stores around the beginning of Q2.

So now I need a Toshiba REZGA HD TV, Toshiba HD DVD player and perhaps even a Toshiba G900 smart phone… Variety, I’ve always said it’s the spice of life. It’s why I have cornflakes and gravy in the mornings.
