It doesn’t take much to get an Apple fanboy excited, so just imagine the web hysteria created by Steve Job’s latest publicity ploy…

Plastered all over the company’s UK and US front pages currently is a message which says ‘The first 30 years were just the beginning. Welcome to 2007.’ In typical Jobsian style this is a message of such ridiculous ambiguity I was tempted to ignore it altogether but I know I’ll be emailed into oblivion if I don’t…

So, for the cheap seats, let’s break it down:

  • 1. 2007 is Apple’s 30th anniversary
  • 2. It makes a certain kind of sense to suggest your best ideas are not already behind you
  • 3. The MacWorld Expo is next week and we should expect some new product launches.

On the other hand, does it guarantee the long awaited handset-that-can-no-longer-be-called-the-‘iPhone’? No. Does it guarantee a rejuvenated video iPod following the lines’ virtual sabbatical last year? No. Should something happen to one or the other? Probably. Will we get a whole rash of incremental product line updates? Naturally.

Now can we all just calm down and wait patiently like grown ups for the next seven days…

…ok, ok… if Steve Jobs can’t why should you? Fair enough.

Update:
In related news the iPod Nano ‘(Product) RED’ is now being listed as available in an 8GB model alongside the previous 4GBer. This may have been the case for a while, but – if so – no one told us…
