TrustedReviews NewslettersConsidering the fixed line telephone has been around for over 150 years its development has been embarrassingly slow compared to that of the all conquering mobile. Philips however has made a good stab at closing the gap.
Its new CD5351S DECT cordless phone has a colour screen, colour coded menus, SMS functionality, caller ID, polyphonic ringtones (including caller specific ringtones), a digital answering machine and modern styling.
Of course there is no integrated digital camera or multimedia functionality and the screen resolution is limited to 97 x 67 pixels but these are expendable features since it isn’t being taken far outside the home. Instead the CD5351S has more helpful abilities such as doubling as a baby monitor using its DECT connectivity, indicating signal strength and providing a massive 12 hours talk time (150 on standby) from a single charge.
Internal memory allows 50 names and numbers to be stored, plus 10 SMS boxes while the call log holds 10 entries and 50 text messages.
The CD5351S goes on sale immediately for an eminently affordable £49.99 including VAT and can be coupled with up to five DECT compatible handsets.
