Having successfully gate crashed the mobile phone elite with a range of black handsets named after brown substance, LG is hoping to follow up with something just as desirable.

The ‘Shine’ is a 13mm thick slider with a metal body and brushed aluminium finish which bares more than a little similarity to Motorola’s hideous ubiquitous RAZR, but in a good way.

On the outside a cylindrical slider replaces the more traditional four way rocker and the 2.2in QVGA screen has a mirror-esque finish when not in use. A two megapixel Schneider-Kreuznach camera with flash has been fitted along with 1GB of internal memory and (finally) a memory expansion slot though the format was not specified (I suspect microSD).

At just 115g and with a footprint of 98 x 51mm the Shiny is certainly pocket friendly. Naturally enough it will debut first in Korea – as the SV420/LV4200/KV4200, depending on network – and though an international release is not yet officially confirmed, I think it is safe to say this is a handset for which LG has justifiably high hopes.

Expect bankers, stock traders, estate agents and anyone who drives a silver Audi TT to be sporting one of these next year.
