Convergence may be a wonderful thing but it doesn’t half play havoc with our carefully chosen product sections. Latest case in point: Samsung’s 10 megapixel cameraphone.

First spied in prototype form at Cebit back in March, the SCH-B600 is the world’s first mobile phone to sport a 10 megapixel camera, or perhaps that should be the world’s first 10 megapixel camera to add phone functionality… who knows?

Making a fight for the latter category is the handset’s 3x optical zoom - a staple of current digital cameras - and a telescope autofocus lens. Rooting for the mobile phone classification is the 16m colour 2.2in QVGA screen, Bluetooth, a MicroSD slot, multimedia playback functionality (MP3, AAC, AAC+) and stereo speakers. Adding a third confusing permutation is the S-DMB support for streaming digital television and TV out.

Despite all these specs, impressively, the B600 is actually 6mm thinner and 10g lighter than the company’s previous best: the seven megapixel 127 x 52 x 27mm, 180g SCH-V770.

Of course being a record breaker sadly means the B600 is scheduled primarily for the Korean market (where it will be released under the company’s ‘Anycall’ branding with a hefty 900,000 won - £485 - price tag) with no European launch on the radar.

Still, who really wants a 10 megapixel cameraphone…? Ok. You do… and you… and you… and - yeah alright - me…
