At IFA 2006, LG had a "sneak preview" of their new clamshell mobile phone which – like the U380 – will be seen on the 3 network in October.

The handset itself was feature laden with the usual suspects: two megapixel camera, playback of music and video files (MP3, AAC, WMA, Mpeg4) along with the pleasant surprise of a hefty 200MB of built-in memory and the all important HSDPA. A QVGA 2.2in 262K LCD screen and Bluetooth connectivity also round things off nicely. Weight and dimensions were not to hand but here’s a comparison shot with an LG pen to give you a decent impression.

Interestingly, despite having a shape and feel rather akin to the Motorola RAZR (yet, for my money, coming off as far sleeker animal than Motorola’s overrated mess) it has yet to be confirmed whether the U830 will launch under the LG “chocolate” brand.

Undoubtedly more will become clear once an RRP arrives but as it stands the U830 looks set to deliver another hefty kick to the tender regions of Motorola’s tacky show pony and that can only be a good thing.
