You desperately wanted it, now here is when you can get it...
HTC's Touch HD has formally been announced today as an Orange UK exclusive from "early November" (the release date we had expected). Vitally however, for those punters not overly thrilled with the Orange network, other telcos won't get a look in until 2009.

On the upside, with subsidies the Touch HD will cost just £79.99 on an 18 month £40pm contract which will include data surfing - though just to 250MB per month as Orange continues to lack on its mobile broadband offerings compared to the likes of Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2 and 3.
"We are very pleased to launch this state of the art mobile internet device exclusively on the Orange network," said Francois Mahieu, Orange UK's Director of Devices. "It is a great phone but also a wonderful multimedia handset which paves the way to even more innovations from Orange next year in the mobile internet space. The HTC Touch HD on Orange will be the must have device this Christmas for the person that wants it all."
I can hear that gnashing of teeth from rivals as we speak.
That said, with 3 Comes With Music, the Vodafone BlackBerry Storm and of course O2's iPhone 3G all available for the Christmas period this is looking like one very merry handset season.
Recession, economic crisis, job uncertainty, stock market collapse, etc, etc notwithstanding...
