Palm Officially Launches Treo Pro

While Palm security has been showing more holes than your average Swiss cheese, the leaked snaps and specifications of the Treo Pro have probably done the company more harm than good. So with web interest bubbling nicely the handset has gone and gotten all nice and official...
Originally codenamed the 'Treo 850', the smartphone was released then strangely pulled from the Palm website last night but now seemingly over its stage fright we can firm up everything we already knew.

Visually something of a hybrid between the front of the BlackBerry Bold and back of the iPhone 3G, the Pro is certainly the best looking handset from Palm since... well, ever. It features a full Qwerty keyboard, 3G, WiFi, GPS, a slightly bizarre - though roomy - 320 x 320 pixel display, microSDHC card slot and a never-take-it-for-granted 3.5mm headphone jack.
On the downside, a 2MP camera isn't exactly setting the world alight while the 256MB ROM, 128MB RAM is fairly poor by modern standards and if you're not a fan of Windows Mobile 6.1 then bear in mind Palm hasn't put in HTC and Samsung levels of effort in trying to cover it all up.

Keeping with the bizarre public announcement(s) of the Treo Pro, Palm also hasn't divulged any price or release information, though sim free or on Vodafone seem the two main options at present according to the site (see grab above).
Of course I know what you're thinking: Palm has let us down before and its financial results don't inspire the greatest confidence but it's hard to be mean to such a pretty face...
Update: here are those pricing details: £399.99 unlocked. Not cheap, but we've seen a heck of a lot worse for less well specified devices... As for Vodafone expect it to reveal its subsidised prices soon.

"...Palm hasn't put in HTC..."
If you look closely at the top right of some of the screen shots, you may notice HTCs Task Manager. Coincidence?
