Samsung Upstages 3G iPhone Hours Before Launch

Hours before Apple's big WWDC keynote who would've guessed Samsung would do this...? Yep - everyone.
Still, much like the 'accidentally leaked' snaps of the touchscreen BlackBerry Thunder late Sunday evening, so Samsung has decided to push out its most credible next generation iPhone challenger to date: the 'i900', dubbed 'Omnia'.
Already spotted earlier this month the i900 lives up to its billing with a large (though not iPhone large) 3.2in haptic touch enabled touchscreen display, GPS, 7.2Mbit HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth A2DP and a choice of either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage. Backing this up are an advanced 5MP camera with autofocus, image stabilisation and geo-tagging and a snazzy reworking of the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS.

All the usual multimedia codec support is in there too along with the pleasant surprise of DivX and XviD combined with handset based video editing as Sammy goes for the jugular. A TV Out port, push email, accelerometer and FM tuner may also win it many hearts and minds unless Apple comes up with something spectacular (and heavily subsidised) tonight.
Whetting appetites the i900 was officially released in Samsung's native Korea today but while no formal European launch date was given a Q3 timeframe has been put on its head. Of course Samsung has been down this Cupertino-inspired route before with the glorious-on-paper-but-lacking-in-reality F490. Let's hope it has now learnt from those fairly culpable UI mistakes.
Just how well has it done? We'll know in four hours, 30 minutes and counting...
