It may be argued BlackBerry has taken its sweet time entering the touchscreen handset market, but could the delay prove time well spent?

According to handset obsessed site BGR the answer could well be a resounding yes after it claims to have uncovered the first reliable details on the much anticipated and coveted super phone.

Codenamed the BlackBerry 9500 and dubbed the 'Thunder' (a name which may stick given the firm's relatively new love for titles over numbers) BGR says the handset will feature just four (count em) physical keys: send, end/power on or off, menu and back. Take heart hardcore BlackBerry fans, if anyone else can make a cracking virtual keyboard (I believe Apple already has) RIM can.

Furthermore, as we should probably expect now the Bold has made its official entrance, the Thunder will follow in its footsteps down an HSDPA and WiFi path and could even go as far as offering a Long Term Evolution (LTE) component. Yep, we're talking Super 3G here.

Hedging its bets, BGR says even if RIM does choose to run with such a futuristic core that operators - being unable to take advantage of it for some time - may consider disabling it to save on power consumption.

Other than that little lot info was, as could be expected, pretty scarce and unless you're particularly gullible you'll realise what we have above it a mock-up of how BGR believes the Thunder could look according to its source.

Don't make us wait too long you ingenious Canadians...
