Boy, 3 isn't half attacking the mobile broadband market...

Setting a rabid cat amongst some particularly terrified pigeons is news that the progressive network is slashing both the price of its mobile broadband dongles (modems) and data tariffs by a whopping 50 per cent.

On the hardware side both 3's £99.99 ZTE and Huawei E220 dongles will sell for just £49.99 on simple Pay As You Go deals from 1 May while for existing customers 18 and 24 months contacts offer an even better deal with £10, £15 and £25 bundles (providing 1GB, 3GB and 7GB of data allowance respectively) cut to a mere £5, £7.50 and £12.50. On top of this, sign up to one of these deals and the dongle is free.

As a rough guide to these capacities, 3 quotes its most popular 3GB package as enabling a user to send up to 2,000 plain text emails, spend 100 hours surfing the web and download an additional 100 two minute videos and 200 music tracks. Of course bitrates for both audio and video weren't mentioned but you get the idea.

So Vodafone, T-Mobile and Orange (erm, let's not even bother to challenge Orange) - whatcha gonna do about this…?
