Now THIS is a step forward...

Seen initially on the Spain-only Blusens G01, NDrive has used its greater reach and financial muscle to bring the first photo mapping GPS systems to a wider audience.

Used in the 'G800' (left) and 'G280' (right) the "real life" system can be used from five different perspectives (four diagonal plus a bird's eye view) or set to automatic which will choose the best perspective for you whilst navigating. At present the photo mapping system will spring into life wherever a city has been 'mapped' so expect it to include the major English and European cities early doors with expansion over time.

Speaking of which, both units ship with an unusually large 8GB memory card while all the usual Speed Camera alerts, Bluetooth, FM transmitter and multimedia playback functionality that we've come to expect from high end units is in there. The obvious difference between the two is the larger, widescreen aspect ratio LCD in the G800 though both feature touchscreen interfaces.

Scheduled for a late April release and priced at £199 (G280) and £315 (G800) the models look set to cause something of a splash. The GPS market is a highly crowded and competitive one, but this could just be enough for NDrive to carve out a successful niche...
