Windows Mobile die-hard HTC is getting pummelled from all corners at the moment - with E-TEN running particularly hot - and now Asus has shown it plans to make life even more difficult...

It has formally announced the 'M930', a flip open Qwerty smartphone that looks like the illicit love child of HTC's S710 and Nokia's famous Communicator and it certainly has the features to concern both.

For starters, the WM6 touting M930 has two screens, a 2.6in QVGA external LCD and - though lacking dimensions - larger stretched 400 x 240 pixeller inside. HSDPA is par for the course too along with quad band and a nippy Texas Instruments TI2431 CPU clocked at 450MHz. WiFi makes it in as well along with Bluetooth and a 2MP camera with autofocus and flash. A microSD expansion slot and 256MB ROM / 64MB RAM combo also mean the M930 squarely hits the Windows Mobile profile on the head.

Finally, at 113 x 54 x 18.7 mm, the M930 is predictably something of a beast but in weighing only 158g it won't do quite the amount of pocket stretching you'd imagine.

As for availability, given Asus' record, I wouldn't expect see the M930 this side of 3GSM (Feb) or CeBIT (March) though it may well be worth the wait...
