It seems September is not only the month for the major players in the MP3 market to refresh their product lines, GPS is getting a good going over too...

On the back of announcements from ViaMichelin, TomTom, Mio and Pioneer, old school brand Navman last night held an event to signal the launch of its latest range: the 'S-Series'.

Boasting "more than 500 enhancements", the line is comprised of the S30, S50, S70 and S90i - above - so S Series seems a good choice of name. Among these improvements is a redesigned lightweight new exterior which the company claims makes the flagship S90i 20 per cent slimmer than any product in its class. A re-designed user interface, 4.3in widescreen auto-dimming displays (other than the S30 which has a 3.5 incher), updated maps, POIs and real time traffic information covering 14 countries (twice as many as before) make other noteworthy additions.

Following TomTom's 'Help Me' lead, the S Series also sports an 'SOS' button which lists local emergency services covering everything from hospitals to garages and dentists to police stations.

Finally, hopping aboard the multimedia fad which has engulfed sat navs in recent months, NavPix has been improved to incorporate images searches on Flickr providing access to 23m geo-tagged images which can then be downloaded onto any S-Series device and navigated to directly.

Out in October, the S-Series range starts from just £149.99 for the S30 with the S50 coming in at £179.99, the S70 at £199.99 and the S90i flexing your plastic to the tune of £299.99.

It's sure getting crowded out there...
