Following Monday's positively glowing review of TomTom's Go 720 unit, the company looks set for a particularly good week...

Proving that there is life in the old dog yet, TomTom has announced the ‘3rd Edition' of its ever-popular ONE - a model I thought was for the scrap heap following launch of the widescreen ONE XL.

The big addition with the 3rd Edition however is the introduction of TomTom's ‘Map Share' technology which lets users share improvements daily via the TomTom Home free software application. In theory this means drivers always have the most up to date mapping available to them as well as the benefit of local knowledge. Don't come running to me if monekyboy456 sends you into a ditch though...

Other than Map Share, the 3rd Edition also gets an interface update to match the company's latest models as well as the Go's ‘Help Me!' menu which includes safety information such as the nearest hospital, car maintenance information and first aid instructions.

In actual hardware terms everything remains the same with a 3.5in touchscreen display, 512MB/1GB internal memory (regional/international), svelte dimensions of 96 x 82 x 25mm and a portable 174g weight.

The TomTom ONE 3rd Edition goes on sale immediately costing just £149 for the Regional version and £179 for full European mapping. Any bets on a 4th Edition...?
