The T-Mobile SideKick is very much a US phenomenon and has little interest or credibility in Europe where fully fledged smartphones rule the roost, but could that be about to change...?

Tech uber-blog Gizmodo has discovered the skinny on the latest T-Mobile SideKick and having enlisted Motorola to give the series an overhaul may finally be onto something less gigglesome.

Known internally as either the 'Zante' or 'Q900' this latest model has been given an extreme makeover of Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen-esque magnitudes with extreme black and purple exterior styling and a host of features.

Being a budget device (just $269 apparently) the Zante packs quite a lot in with a 2.4in QVGA screen, 1.3MP camera, Qwerty thumbboard, web browser, audio player (MP3, Wav, Midi, AAC, AAC+, WMA), IM support (AIM, Yahoo!, MSN), Push Email, 128MB of internal memory, MiniSD expansion slot and Bluetooth. It also manages 5.9 hours of talk time and doesn't weigh the earth at 150g.

A few notables such as 3G, WiFi and touchscreen functionality are missing but it is budget friendly and remember Paris Hilton has (infamously) used SideKicks in the past so they can't be too complex.

An October time frame is mooted for the Zante and I'm thinking it may find more friends this time around, even if it dares to be a mobile device not made by Apple...
