While the Samsung Q1 Ultra was the surprise hit (and announcement?) of CeBIT 2007 the company itself remained cagey about an actual release date, but now we've got one.

Reports in Korea have confirmed that (by far) the sexiest UMPC to date will be launched in May. Currently I don't know whether this is limited to Korea though with the global nature of the product it would seem strange if it wasn't international.

Why May? The simple answer is McCaslin. As I suspected at the official unveiling the device would use a new-as-yet-unannounced Intel chipset to attain its remarkable spec list and this platform was only just confirmed at IDF last week.

Consequently the Q1 Ultra provides a complete Vista Aero experience despite a reduced weight (690g verses the Q1's 780g) and dimensions (227.5 x 123.9 x 22.9mm), along with increased screen brightness (from 200 nits to 300 nits), a chunk of 1GB DDR2 RAM and – vitally – a boosted battery life guaranteeing a minimum of four hours heavy use and up to 10 hours using an extended battery.

Darn. At the start of this article I was quite buoyed by the thought of a May release. Now I realise It can't come soon enough!
