Medion Dives Into UMPC Space

TrustedReviews NewslettersProgressive German PC manufacturer Medion continues to branch out into new areas with the launch of its debut UMPC.
The 'UMPC RiM 1000' is a VIA rather than Intel based model using a C7-M 770 ULV CPU which Medion claims will bring increased battery life (though it didn't say how much) and it crams in a 6.5in LCD and 30GB HDD.
As the photo makes blatantly obvious the RiM 1000 comes with a sliding QWERTY split keyboard and connectivity is good with WiFi and Bluetooth plus an SD card slot and two USB ports. Windows Vista Home also comes preinstalled.
At 190 x 121 x 28.3mm and 740g the RiM 1000's dimensions and weight are about average for this class of device and so is the anticipated price tag of £799 (incl. VAT). Expect it at some point next month.
In related news Medion has also rolled out the latest addition to its sat nav range: the 'GoPal S2310' (which was first shown off at CeBIT). A compact yet robust device, it comes with a 3.5in touch screen display, anti-shock and anti-spill casing, Bluetooth and the rather impressive ability to sync routes with and export them to Google Earth. It will also happily play MP3s (no matter your taste in music).
The GoPal S2310 will arrive in the next few weeks and retail for £199 (incl.VAT).
I remember a time when companies were quite happy just to make PCs... thankfully that's long gone.
