Caution, reading of this may cause sweaty palms, heavy breathing and fainting so remember that it isn’t official yet.

I’m guessing – having looked at the photos – that my warning hasn’t gone completely unheeded so I’ll just plough on while you try to slap yourselves back to consciousness. Anyway, what we have above is apparently the latest Meizu player, dubbed the ‘M8’, and it has shown up here on the company’s official forums. Despite looking outrageously like an iPhone (Meizu’s known for its ‘Apple Appreciation’) this looks to be something even more exciting.

For a start the M8 has what the iPhone most obviously lacks: 3G, it also sports a 3.3in 720 x 480 high resolution touch screen and a three megapixel camera as well as PMP abilities. There’s an ARM 11 processor at its heart which is capable of recording video at 30fps and Bluetooth and WiFi make it onboard.

Where the iPhone runs a cut down version of Mac OS X, the M8 is purported to use Windows Mobile and is apparently destined for Asian territories this summer. Whether it exists is one thing, whether it can get past Apple lawyers is very much another.

Somehow I can’t help but wish it does both…
