After the popularity/ubiquity of HTC smartphones over the last year it seems every network and his brother, their sister, her hamster and its spinny-wheel thingy want to sign them up – O2 is the latest.

Following the leak, it’s confirmation and arrival on T-Mobile BT’s most regretted sell-off has also snapped up the HTC Artemis/P3300. As always with these things the P3300 has been given a make over and rebrand and is now titled the ‘Xda Orbit’. Interestingly, it has also taken the time to smooth out the P3300’s slightly harsh lines with the result being a far softer, if more generic, look.

Onboard all is pretty much untouched with the P3300/Artemis/Compact III’s quad band, integrated GPS, 2.8in 230k touchscreen LCD, 128MB ROM, 64MB RAM, 2MP camera, audio and video playback, FM tuner, MicroSD slot, WiFi, Bluetooth and svelte dimensions of 111.5 x 62.5 x 12.8mm.

Windows Mobile 5.0 powers the whole thing along and – as with T-Mobile – O2 has decided to ship the device with a pre-installed copy of ALK Technologies’ CoPilot satellite navigation software.

Price vary according to contract and I’d be surprised/astonished/nay dumbfounded if this is the last variant we see on these shores of this very tidy smartphone.
