Well throw in a 1.3 megapixel camera, second VGA camera for video calls, UMTS, 512MB SRAM and 1GB of flash, MicroMMC slot, email client, video encoding and decoding for Mpeg4, MP3 and AAC support and USB2.0 connectivity and you’ve got the VK7000. That’s a paltry 9.9mm thick and another one in the eye of the multinationals.

VK also put on the best PR and entertainment bunny display of the show. Whatever you do, don't look too closely…

The underdog continued to flourish in the form of Pantech too. It’s rather inventive IMB-1000 made rather a strong argument for the promotion of mobile TV. The 2.4in 260K QVGA touch screen was a joy to behold and it was well utilised via Satellite DMB and VOD. A 3D stereo speaker gave surprisingly clear audio output (even if the running demo was of Ashley Simpson) and a Transflash slot enables memory expansion.

A two megapixel digital camera was more than an afterthought and with dimensions of 116 x 52 x 25mm and weighing 153g it wasn’t the monster it could’ve been. Pantech said they don’t know if the IMB-1000 will come to the UK but it is in discussions trying to make it so…

Now just in case you are beginning to think I’m getting all rather liberal and hippy with a small companies = good, big companies = bad mentality like me bring you three phones from DNet.

Less inspiration and more duplication it demonstrated a jaw dropping disregard for the work of other designers. Let’s begin with ‘its’ DM751, a 1.3 megapixel camera phone with has absolutely nothing in common stylistically with an iPod mini…

Then there was the Sony K750i, sorry, I mean the DNet DJ500 another 1.3 megapixler with the ‘bonus’ of flashing disco lights.

And finally we round of with the… oh lets just say it all together: the Motorola SLVR!?!
