Gmail is the most popular new email client around and arguably the best, so now we can surf our inboxes from our phones it’s kinda cool, non?

Logically named ‘Gmail Mobile’, the new service has a cell phone chummy format and can be found at the web address: http://m.gmail.com. Alternatively, users can get this url forwarded to them in a text message if they enter their mobile phone numbers here, but this option is currently only available to those living in Yankie geography.

Despite this, those unsure how to manually enter a url into their phone should find the motivation to pull out their manuals from the bottom a dusty drawer because Gmail Mobile is smart enough to also handle attachments like photos and pdf files. If you have a phone that can access these formats (as many increasingly can) then you’re really in business.

There is no charge for using Gmail Mobile, though your provider will still charge you for the surfing data. If your contract gives you the freedom to roam the GPRS and 3G world then this could be for you. Just resist downloading those 3MB PowerPoint slideshows of David Hasslehoff and George Dubya that tend to circulate offices around the globe…
