I’ve bullied this focus group before, but I don’t care, they deserve it. Audi TT Owners, May I Have Your Attention Please! Sony has made something silver and shiny for your silver and shiny car.

Similar to Hollywood types who spell names like Jill as ‘Gyll’, the ‘nav-u’ is a suitably preposterous name for its new range of satellite navigation devices. Two units make up the offering, the NV-U50 and the NV-U70T. Each has a large 3.5in colour, touch screen display with 80 degree angle and run Sony’s own proprietary (of course) GPS chip.

A dynamic re-routing function and real-time traffic information means both models can adjust journey plans on the fly, while a two way speaker system with 1.6W woofer should ensure clear voice instructions. Map coverage is pretty good, expanding a user’s chosen region by up to five countries and border areas, including neighbouring cities. The NV-U70T also offers pan European coverage (27 countries with 15 languages), which puts my knowledge of GCSE French into some perspective.

Inside the boxes are a variety of essentials such as the GPS antenna, a car cradle kit and European map package and they will be winging their way to your local shops (hopefully via the most expedient route) in January 2006. Pricing is currently stuck at a red light.
