“Lifestyle” is probably the technology buzz world of the year. Previously it would have been something like “Slim & Light” or “Ultra Portable”, but that just didn’t have enough pizzazz once these kind of products entered the mainstream market. Now almost every category of device with an inbuilt computer has a Lifestyle variant, including – from today – the tablet PC.

Our portable devices aficionado and regular columnist Sandra Vogel wrote all about the Nokia “Tablet” (or 770 as it is officially known) last week and yours truly previewed it back in May. Consequently, you’re only going to get the briefest of recaps: tablet, 141 x 79 x 19mm, 230g, 65k 800 x 480 display, integrated g wireless, touch screen. Essentially, we’re talking about a couch potatoes’ potential dream.

The new news (I rather like that phrase) is it has shipped. That’s right, the Vogel will soon be no longer the only lucky so and so to have one in their mitts. Saying that, I use “lucky” in a cautious term, because as our special Sandra explained: even after an extended trial she’s not convinced whether the 770 will succeed or fail. Price will have a lot to do with it. Our very own Nostradamus said she was looking for something around £249 last week and Nokia has plumped for £277 (including VAT), but web discounts should see it around the magical £250 mark.

Deliveries to retailers have begun now, but will it prove to be a revolutionary tool of the future or just an interesting curio? You decisions are going to tell Nokia accountants very soon…
