While many of us already do a lot of our shopping via our computers, few of us do it via our mobile phones. There’s a good reason for this: it’s naff, but could Reporo be about to change this?

The company, which sounds like an Englishman’s attempts to speak Italian, is essentially a one stop java-based shopping portal that has been designed to take the pain and excessive data charges out of GPRS induced retail therapy. It purports to do this using a simple, super stripped down interface which claims to be as easy as 1. (Select Goods Category) 2. (Text name to search for item) 3. (Checkout and delivery - address provided by text or stored in a user profile). See a demo here. All payments are fully encrypted and, for extra security, can only be activated with a personal four digit PIN that you choose during registration.

Importantly, Reporo’s retail partner list is quite impressive so you shouldn’t feel like you’re getting a paucity of outlet options. Amongst the main chains are Blackwell’s, CD WOW!, Firebox and FlowersDirect. The list is growing week by week, with more big names expected to go live over the next month, including Amazon, John Lewis, and Lastminute.com. Prices are the same as these businesses quote online, and the Reporo has also negotiated some nifty bargains for first time users, such as £5 off any top 75 CD or DVD the first time you use the service to buy from CD WOW!

As for the Reporo software itself, it is completely free and is sent to your mobile phone via a text message once you register at the company’s site. Almost any phone with GPRS capability is said to be compatible with Reporo, but check the website for full details.

Sounds like just the tool for taking impulse buying to a whole new level…

Update:
PC World, Currys, 0800 Flowers, Boots Flowers, Mankind and Beauty Expert, Figleaves, Odd Bins, Wine Buy The Case and Kitbag have now all joined the service in time for the Festive Season.
