Could HP be blowing our trumpet instead of its own for a change? By the look of the new iPaq hw6700 series it’s really hard to tell.

The reason I say this, and no doubt something you have picked up from the headline, is that the two new iPaq models “leaked” are stuffed to the rafters with features. I’ll show you what I mean: the 6710 and 6715 both feature a Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, 802.11g wireless, Bluetooth, quad band phone connectivity, onboard GPS and MiniSD slots.

Driving these Santa sacks of fun are 312MHz Intel XScale PXA270 processors, 192MB of memory, 64MB of RAM and 128MB of ROM. Don’t believe me? See the slides above and below. Still sceptical? Yeah, we’re caught in two minds too, but we hope it’s true.

Currently, we don’t know for sure what the difference between the 6710 and 6715 will be but in the previous 6500 series it was the 1.3 megapixel camera. Since the 6715 definitely has one of those we’re going to go out on a limb and suggest that will the definer again.

Naturally the shots – which turned up on HP’s own UK site – have swiftly been removed. It could’ve been a hack, but you’d have to be pretty far down Geek Street to crack the site on one of the world’s largest IT companies and just fiddle a little to create a new and highly desirable product line. Still, hackers tend to be sad people like that and they don’t look like Angelina Jolie and Johnny Lee Miller… (Hollywood lies to us).

Availability? If the 6700 series is genuine it can’t be far off. After all, the marketing tends to be put out nearer the end of product development than the start. Completely unlike, say, the music industry…
