Introduction

The SR6007 may not be Marantz’s flagship AV receiver, but one look at its price, spec sheet and design and you could be forgiven for thinking it was. This £900 model, which sits between the top-end SR7007 (£1300) and SR5007 (£700), offers a superb range of features, including internet and DLNA media streaming, AirPlay support and 4K upscaling for the first time.

Marantz SR6007 – Design

What sets Marantz receivers apart from the competition is their sumptuous looks, and the SR6007 is a perfect example. Like previous models the fascia curves gently at both ends, which is a refreshing change from the stiff straight lines of rival receivers. There’s also an elegant silver/gold finish alongside the usual black one. This front panel and large volume dial poking out from it are fashioned from aluminium, augmented by a lovely brushed finish – all of which makes the front end pleasingly robust. Also embedded into the fascia is Marantz’ famous porthole LED display, which shows the currently selected input and the volume level. If truth be told it’s a little hard to read from a normal seating distance, but it looks great.

Also on the front panel is a discreet row of buttons governing a few of the unit’s key functions, below which are an HDMI input and a USB port. Composite video input, analogue stereo input and a jack for the setup microphone are hidden under a plastic cover.

Its gorgeous ‘uncompromised’ build quality continues throughout, with a metal chassis, high-grade audio components (including a pair of transistors for each channel, like Marantz’ two-channel amps) plus gold plated RCA and speaker terminals.

Marantz SR6007 – Connections

On the back, the socketry selection befits a £900 receiver. There are five more HDMI inputs – all v1.4 and able to pass through 3D signals – plus two ARC-enabled outputs that let you feed two displays at once. Other video connections include two sets of component video inputs and one output, three composite video inputs and two outputs.

On the audio side there are four digital inputs (two optical, two coaxial) and six analogue stereo inputs. These are joined by 7.1-channel analogue inputs for those with external multichannel decoders, 7.2-channel pre-outs, plus analogue stereo and Zone 2 outputs.

Custom installers are well catered for too, with RS-232, remote control in/out, flasher in and 12V trigger output. Completing the line up are an Ethernet port to access the unit’s network functionality and Marantz’ M-XPort for connection the RX-101 Bluetooth audio adapter (below).
