One of a trio of new IPS displays unveiled by LG at CES 2013, the LG ET83 Touch 10 monitor boasts stunning visuals and 10 finger multitouch capabilities, perfect for Windows 8.

Bringing smartphone and tablet-esque touch controls to the monitor market, the LG ET83 Touch 10 will see users adopt new, more immersive input methods with the display capable of supporting a full scale touchscreen QWERTY keyboard that will see traditional physical keys scrapped.

Far from the sleekest or most stylish of monitors on the market, the LG ET83 Touch 10 is by modern standards somewhat chunky with the thick, heavily bezelled screen supported by an equally robust plastic stand that fails to scream quality whilst managing to avoid the unwanted cheap and tacky factor.

Measuring at 23-inches in size, the LG ET83 Touch 10 is a relatively middle-ground monitor in terms of size, neither immersively large or frustratingly small with the ten-finger touch controls building on the standard two-finger offering of most rival touchscreen monitors.

A simple looking monitor with few bells or whistles, the LG ET83 Touch 10’s controls are discretely located on the underside of the unit’s front right edge helping ensure an unblemished, minimalist look. What’s more, with a black and white matt finish, the touchscreen monitor is unlikely to offend, visually, in any home or work environment.

Offering impressive visuals off the bat, albeit with slightly dulled colours, the LG ET83 Touch 10 was, on first impressions, a pleasant monitor to use, with sharp areas of focus, no pixilation and a broad contrast ratio helping ensure enjoyable visuals as standard.

Avoiding the unwanted lag pitfall, transitions on the LG ET83 Touch 10’s display are relatively speedy with little judder or stuttering apparent when scrolling between images or the side-scrolling menu screens or Microsoft’s new Windows 8 software.

Although on-screen content is unaffected, our time with the LG ET83 Touch 10 gave us the impression that the unit’s display had a slightly coarse coating with finger swipes often met with slight resistance and a slightly troublesome skip that saw out fingers catch, not slide freely, and judder from the screen.

Set to be released in the US this March, the LG ET83 Touch 10 is to line up as one of the smarter monitors on the market with the IPS panel ensuring wide viewing angles with little image degradation and the partypiece 10 finger touch that is to make use of many new Windows 8 features and applications.

Opening up a world of new possibilities, the LG ET83 Touch 10 could be paired with a selection of tablet-styled apps with user’s home setups able to be transformed into an interactive artists pad, digital music studio or touch-friendly work environment.
