Lexmark software problems come as no surprise at all. I had a torrid time with the X2670, which Blue Screened my machine when I tried to install its software. Frankly, at this sort of price I would say that the Canon MX860 is a far safer bet, and better quality as well.

I have a Lexmark Pro705 and I had no problems installing it at all. In fact, I found it more seamless than my past printers. The Prevail is durable enough to handle my high volume prining needs with EXCELLENT quality. I own a small business and use this machine to print marketing material that very well represents my business to customers. Thanks Lexmark!

Just bought the 705 after returning an Epson Workforce 610 (it only supports printing on #10 envelopes). The set up was quick and easy and did not have any software problems. I updated the firmware and got updates before attempting to install the software, as recommended by the instilation disc. Wireless was a breeze. Printer would be better if front control panel was adjustble like the Epson. The paper tray is a plus.

On paper it's the perfect Mutli-fonction printer but ....

But there are plenty of problems:

Under Windows 7 64bit it was impossible for me to scan document trough the wireless connection because the software doesn't start.

I have called Lexmark several times but they could never solved the problem. I have spent in total 3-4 hours on the phone with Lexmark to hear that they couldn't solve the problem and that an engineer was going to check my problem. After 6 months , I still haven't heard anything from them.

Plenty of problems with the Wifi connection but it has been solved with the update of the firmware and update of the driver. But still I had to print during 1 year the laptop connected to the printer via USB because the printer could print in Wifi 5 times out of 10.

With the last firmware, if you connect a USB stick containing PDF document, your printer will block. You 'll have to remove the usb stick and restart the printer by unplug it from socket.

Under Mac OSX, automatic two-sided printing doesn't work. You'll have to turn the page by yourself.

Small software bug here and there.

I would not recommend this Printer and Lexmark in general as it's mainly software problems.

My second Lexmark is a Prevail Pro 705. I upgraded from the Pro700, by taking the printer to Office Max, they gave me $50 for the old one to put down towards the new one. Lexmark products are great for their pricing. Today, I am working on setting up the replacement Lexmark sent me because the print-head on the one I am returning has a problem. I received a whole new unit and am very happy they did this. No questions or back talk...after I told the Lexmark rep what problem I was having with the printer, he said, "we'll send you a new one". Anyone who expects a perfect system, of any kind, is a whiner, and will be one with everything they buy. You always need to expect some problems, especially if you pay what a Lexmark printers costs. The price for an "all in one" Lexmark printer is great. I have a small business and am very satisfied with the Lexmark product. I will continue to buy them, even if I am inconvenienced for a few days waiting for a replacement.
