Get rid of the tacky shine; off the display, off the case.

Always beads and mirrors for the natives...

I think it´s sad that again functionality is sacrificed for design. What use has glossy piano black when it easily becomes smeared with fingerprints?

I really don't see why anyone would pay £1000 for this when, for the same money, one could buy a new Macbook, which would be comparable in many ways (resolution, thickness, keyboard, DVD drive), but which would have better battery life, a better GPU and a MUCH better CPU. I would expect build quality to be better too.
Any thoughts on why someone would choose the Asus UX50?

@pimlicosound: I thought it might be weight, but at 2.6kg this is another macbook air, something you buy because you like the looks/as bling rather than because it's practical or technologically impressive.

Indeed all, it does look like style over substance, though that's one heck of a lot of style :)
Hopefully we'll soon get one in for review to see exactly how far this is the case.

These just became available in Taiwan today, but with quite a few differences. The U80v has an Intel Core 2 Duo 7350 running it, and ATI HD4570 graphics booster. It only has 2 Gs of Ram on board, but a full 500G drive. Its wonderfully light to the hand (2.15KG) and remarkably cool (temperature wise) as well. Looks like it gets about 4 hrs. of battery.
Form over function? What use is glossy black? It is aesthetically very, very pleasing. I'm very likely to grab one tomorrow...I know I should wait for some good reviews, but damn that's a beautiful piece of technololgy!

Ultra low voltage and great looks = win
Glossy finish and lack of blu ray is dissapointing though.
