Sony VAIO VGN-FZ31Z 15.4in Blu-ray Notebook Review

anyone care to mention the nvidia gfx card that is likey to fail, watching bluray movies. Sony doesnt want to give extra warranty like HP and Dell !!! So watch out you may only have a years use and it will turn into a brick.

Even though advertised as 64 bit ready there still are no drivers released for 64 bit, so you're stuck at 32 bit. Sold with 4 GB memory but on 32 bit systems only 3 GB works...
Battery life is poor, wireless connection not great. Sexy laptop sure, but Sony service has put me off Sony products for life. Hardware virtualization also disabled on all Vaio's and seeing as I purchased the laptops for running concurrent VPC's... Painfull mistake.

I bought this in April 2008 and about 7 months later noticed that battery life was going down the drain. By December the computer would shut down completeli if left off mains power losing any work, so I am having to use it on mains all the time. Laptop cover is only for 6 months so I am going to have to buy a new one. Otherwise the laptop has performed very well with good memory and processor. I use an intensive mortgage program on it and it sailed through the procesing although a fe wmonths on and there has been a bit of slowing, probably from all the added background programs working. The HDMI output is great although I have not made use of the blu-ray yet. The screen is great although I find the sound output very lacking. Some people like it but I think my Apple Mac does a much better job. The casing is also very good and is much sturdier than my previous Toshiba. I was disappointed though that it did not come with the extra security chip that adds to the data safety - if you need this spend a bit more, I think it is worth it. No problems with anything else apart from the battery as mentioned.
