Nokia Booklet 3G Outed

Nokia may be a little late to the netbook party, but it's arriving in style. The Nokia Booklet 3G might just be the netbook we've been waiting to, combining a fantastic-looking chassis with a spec list that doesn't seem to leave anything wanting.

The booklet 3G's 10.1in display is cited as ‘HD' but no resolution is specified - though 1,366 x 768 pixels seems a more-than-safe bet. An HDMI output is provided for displaying high def video on larger, higher resolution, display if that's your thing. Even with its aluminium shell - which, if renders can be believed, looks pretty darned snazzy - the Booklet 3G still only tips 1.25kg.

At the heart of the Booklet 3G sits an Atom processor, like any other netbook, so performance should be on par with other systems. Besting rivals, however is the Booklet 3G's 12 hour battery life. Nokia is, refreshingly, realistic enough to warn that heavy usage will bring that figure down, but it's definitely a good baseline.

Connectivity is definitely strong suit of the Booklet 3G. As the name should betray to you, HSDPA is on offer, with Bluetooth Draft-n wireless and even a-GPS also provided. Nokia is bundling Ovi maps to take advantage of the latter feature, although I would question how many people want a 10in sat-nav.

Neither pricing nor a release date are mentioned, but as the Booklet 3G seems to be running Windows 7, late October is most likely - you can take you own guess on the device's cost.

Uses an Intel Atom Z530 @ 1.6Ghz (no fan)

The Atom CPU is optimised for MID's / UMPC. Has a TDP of 2w instead 2.5w of standard atom processor so should help with bat... more
