TrustedReviews NewslettersGaming laptops might be lagging behind desktops systems somewhat when it comes to pushing Crysis around, but the new portable monsters Rock (now a subsidiary of Stone - and no, that'll never get old) has announced should at least let you run it with detail set to high. Very high.
The Xtreme 840 SLI, available now, sports dual nVidia GeForce GTX280M graphics cards giving you an astonishing total of 2GB or video memory to play with, while an 18.4in Full HD display will show that power and the Blu-ray drive off to its fullest.
If you have the cash you can get an Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad CPU running at 2.53GHz as the brain of your machine. System RAM is limited to 4GB, but as if to make up for it hard drive storage goes up to a staggering 1.5TB (three 500GB 7,200rpm drives in RAID). As the black/white/confused sergeant in Tropic Thunder might say: "hot damn!"
It mightn't sport dual graphics cards, but the Xtreme 790 is certainly a killer in every other regard. With a brand-new Core i7 under the hood it wipes the floor with Core 2-based systems in the processing department, and you can configure a full 6GB or RAM. Other specifications are similar to the 840's.
Both Rocks come with the OS of your choice, and of course free upgrades to Windows 7 are catered for. The 790 starts at £1,999, while the 840 SLI will set you back at least £2,299.
