Virgin Media Announces Updated HD Line-up

Virgin Media subscribers might have cause to complain about the (arguable) Sky monopoly on decent TV content, but moaning should at least be lessened with the latest update to Virgin's HD itinerary. Starting from the end of July, Living, FX, MTV Networks International and National Geographic will all be getting HD channels; bolstering the level of high definition content available on Virgin Media not inconsiderably.

The upshot will be a bunch of new high definition shows available to 'XL TV' customers. Living shows coming in HD will include Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer, Private Practice and CSI (though only the latter is worth the effort if you ask me). FX HD will be showing The Wire, Family Guy and True Blood although as only the latter is actually available in high definition, it's frankly a rather meagre offering. MTV will be doing little better with the likes of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and Spongebob Squarepants airing alongside MTV Unplugged and an array of music events, such as the MTV Europe Music Awards.
National Geographic HD might well be offering the most compelling array of programs. Documentaries like Ancient Megastructures and Extreme Ice will clearly be much more impressive in high definition, after all.
Sky probably doesn't need to be worried quite yet - it all ready offers all these channels - but some of us will at least be pleased to see its lead being (slowly) eaten away.
