As undesirable as the white, plastic, MacBook is compared to its aluminium counterpart, Apple's latest spec bump makes it hard to deny it offers superior bang for your buck. Especially as Apple has now bolstered the internals of its white MacBook up such as they best the entry-level aluminium model.

Inside the system is a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo CPU, nVidia's GeForce 9400M chipset and integrated graphics, 2GB of DDR2 RAM and a 160GB hard drive. That's up from a 2.0GHz CPU, and a 120GB hard drive. Not exactly groundbreaking, but we're not complaining.

Elsewhere there's no change so the same 13.3in, 1,280 x 800 pixel display remains, as do the usual array of USB ports Firewire and Ethernet ports - thrilling stuff.

Annoyingly in the US these upgrades came with no price hike, but Apple has upped the while MacBook from £719 to £749 over here. That's still £180 less than the lower-specced aluminium MacBook, though, betraying either the increased manufacturing cost or huge margins of the aluminium unibody manufacture.

Yeah I wonder why they got rid of the black Macbook. I guess to push people towards the aluminum one?

@ Ohmz - The black was fast becoming a bit of a cult all by itself. I think they stuck with the white as otherwise the new Aluminium MacBooks would still have had something competi... more

Notice how you can put a 500gig hard drive in the puniest MacBook, but NOT the MacBook Pros?
