While it could be argued Asus' Eee PC line doesn't need any further complication there's always space for innovative ideas. Like this…

The 'Eee PC T91' is the company's first venture into pushing its uber popular netbook line into the tablet category and from my hands-on it looks set to be a real hit.

Using a pivot at the centre of the screen the T91 will happily rotate 360 degrees, fold back on itself and features the prerequisite touch screen, stylus-friendly panel - an LED backlit one at that. At 8.9 inches, the T91 is also equipped to be ultra portable and weighs a mere 990g. There is the usual 1.33GHz Atom Z520 CPU at its core but with GPS and a TV tuner optional extras it is flexible too. Other specs haven't been finalised as yet but Asus' admitted to me that - somewhat disappointingly - HDD is likely to be the only drive option.

Perhaps of equal importance however is Asus seems to have finally sorted out its keyboard issues with the T91 featuring a well laid out and solid keyboard with little sign of flex.

Speaking of which, Asus has also served up another potential gem in the form of the touchscreen Eee PC 'T101H'. Currently only a prototype, the 10in model employs an LED backlit screen as well as an Atom N270 CPU and - more interestingly - a brand new Sony-esque (Apple came second people) keyboard format which reps admitted to me will likely be used in most future Eee PC models.

All-in-all not a bad start (and in-line with my CES predictions) and don't expect Asus to be tapped out just yet...

These are close to be the "perfect netbook". Too bad about those glossy screens... I hope they're not poorly suited in terms of battery life and, of course, price.
