Riyad managed to get a comprehensive hands-on with the third generation Intel Classmate back in August. Then we speculated that we might see a launch in October at IDF, which didn't happen; now Laptop Mag in the US has it that CES 2009 will see the system launch, with units shipping from Intel's OEM partner, CTL, later in January.

Laptop Mag also got their hands on a more recent near-production model. As well as a few superficial tweaks, such as a change from a green colour scheme to blue on white, there have apparently been a number of improvements to the interface - arguably the most important aspect of the Classmate.

Programs such as Vision Objects Pen Input, which offers both a virtual keyboard and handwriting to editable text conversion and the Quick Launcher, a simplified home screen allowing quick access to common functions are apparently enhanced. Laptop Mag also suggested the touchscreen sensitivity has been boosted, making it easier to use.
We'll doubtless be able to get hands on with the Gen 3 Classmate ourselves at CES and give you the full low down.
