This is really good news - hopefully there'll be some tech EXTENDING the battery run-time now that we have something to maintain it for longer.. well done HP!

Aye - my Vaio battery is now totally dead (about 3 years old) :(

@ darkspark88 - i've lost about an hour of life from my MacBook Pro battery which is 2 years old, so tech like this will really come in handy. Saying that, i still get just over 2.5 hours on 80% brightness, wifi + tunes in the background, so i can't really complain given what other people get. Would still like my full 8 hrs on near-max settings though!

I didn't realise how badly laptop batteries degrade. The 8 cell battery in my Acer lasted around 3 hours when I first bought it when listening to music and doing work.
Now it lasts about 1h 10m doing that, or <1h if watching a divX video. (18 months later).
So my laptop is now less of a laptop, but requires being near the mains to get anything done. Battery life will be top priority of the next laptop.
