Aside from looking quite nice, the Lenovo S10 has precious little to recommend it over any other netbook out there. Or rather, had; because Lenovo has teamed up with DeviceVM to offer its SplashTop Linux solution on Lenovo's netbook offering.

That's particularly good because it means users get the practicality and quick booting of Linux, as well as the functionality of Windows XP. As a result, applications such as a web browser, email client and instant messenger can all be accessed without the need to load Windows, which can sometimes be a painfully long process on a netbook.

The quick-loading OS has been branded QuickStart on the IdeaPad S10, but called Splashtop elsewhere, such as some Asus notebooks and motherboards. Arguably, though, this is the most useful implementation so far.

What isn't specified in the announcement is whether Lenovo will be applying a price premium for S10s sporting this new feature. Hopefully that won't happen, or it will be negligible, as currently Lenovo is the only manufacturer offering such a solution and as such is a pretty good selling point over rival, similarly specced, netbooks.
