TrustedReviews NewslettersQuite what Dell is doing posting press releases at 8pm on a Sunday is beyond me, but when said release is giving the Inspiron Mini 12 an official release, I'm happy to let it slide. That's because the aforementioned system is Dell's netbook rival to 12.1in notebooks, such as the Samsung Q210 and U6V.
With a thickness ranging from 23mm to 28mm and a weight of 1.2Kg, the Mini 12 is pretty well set to compete with fully fledged 12.1in notebooks on the portability front. The biggest USP the Mini 12 has is its resolution of 1,280 x 800 to back up that 12in screen making this the only netbook (save maybe the HP Mini-Note) with a 'decent' resolution.
Elsewhere a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 CPU is sported, which boasts a lower 2W TDP than the N270 usually sported by netbooks. A 1.3GHz is also offered, although you'd have to be mad to want less processing power than offered by the 1.6GHz part. The system runs Vista Home Edition, although XP and Ubuntu options are slated to come later.
The system is only available in Japan right now, but it mooted to hit the US next month from $600 (~£390). A 6-cell battery will cost an extra $79 (~£50) and will likely be a necessary upgrade for most. UK pricing details and a release soon please, Dell.

Looks wonderful. I'll be waiting for the 1300mhz version with Ubuntu(Which I'll probably tune or replace with something even more efficient).
