We all know that there are a few nVidia graphics cards breaking, as documented by Dell and HP and it looks like the story isn't over yet. Apple has now announced a replacement plan for MacBook Pros with faulty nVidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics chips produced roughly between May last year and September this year.

Repairs are promised free of charge up to two years from the original date of purchase, even if the system in question is out of date - as per other manufacturers deals. Symptoms are, oddly enough, listed as either distorted or scrambled video or a complete lack thereof.

Likely systems to suffer from the defect are listed as all MacBook pros from early this year, as well as the 17in, 2.4GHz and 15in, 2,2GHz combinations.

More interesting, perhaps, is Apple's assertion that, when announcing some of its GPUs had issues, "nVidia assured Apple that Mac computers with these graphics processors were not affected". Apparently that isn't the case, though, hence this replacement scheme.

Still, if rumour is to be believed there's a whole slew of new nVidia-powered MacBooks ready to be announced tomorrow, so why worry about these old ones?
