We've seen a pretty regular trickle about new Sony laptops of late, the most interesting obviously being the new VAIO TT - the replacement for the much loved Sony TZ. Yesterday, however, Sony UK was ready to get official on its new entry-level range of machines. Titled the NS-Series, they'll replace the NR-Series of laptops and though similar in basic appearance, the NS-Series is slimmer and lighter than the range it's replacing.

Featuring ever familiar 15.4in, 1,280 x 800 screens, the new machines will utilise Intel Core 2 Duo processors and its Centrino 2 platform, with a minimum of 3GBs of RAM and 320GB hard drives. Unusually, however, though there will be Blu-ray equipped options the NS-Series doesn't feature an HDMI port, neither does the recently announced CS-Series for that matter.

Also included is Draft-N Wi-Fi and a Webcam, while Windows Vista Home Premium is the predictable operating system of choice. Prices will start at £449 for the most basic configuration featuring an Intel Core 2 Duo T5800, a DVD-Rewriter and integrated graphics.
