While we all know there can only ever be one 'real' Netbook that doesn't stop all of you clamouring after the latest pretenders to the name and, inevitably, the manufacturers and suppliers fighting it out to secure your hard-earned cash. Maplin might just have an edge in that respect, as (for the next month or so at least) its currently selling on such netbook, dubbed the 'minibook Ultra-Portable Laptop' for a brilliantly-low £169.99.

As you might expect for that little money you're not exactly getting a top of the range system, but for the kind of user who's just wants to send the occasional email and sit in front of the TV browsing HoffSpace (or whatever the latest social networking phenomenon is) and eBay there should be more than enough under power the bonnet - so to speak.
- 32-bit CPU (unspecified, who's betting Celeron and who want to side with VIA C7-M?)
- 128MB DDR2 RAM
- 2GB flash storage
- 7in, 800 x 480 screen
- 802.11g WiFi
- Linux pre-installed (with web browser, flash player, email client, office suite and PDF viewer)
- 2200mAh battery (claimed 3-hour operating life)
- 3 USB ports, SD card slot, 100Mbit Ethernet
