As you might imagine Asus' President, Jerry Shen, gets to play with all the company's latest and greatest kit. Unsurprisingly, then, it was Shen who was on hand in Taiwan to show off a prototype to a bunch of journalists- apparently paying homage to the Macbook Air's pull-the-laptop-out-of-an-envelope adverts by doing the same with the Eee PC 'Ultimate' S101.

Supposedly these systems will actually scrap the Eee name, although what the system will be called, that being the case, isn't made clear. If the prototype's styling, specifically the brown colour, is actually planned for the retail models we can't see it helping shift systems. Of course the S101's specs go some way to compensate.

As before a 1.6GHz Atom processor sits at the netbook's heart, but on these Ultimate systems is backed up by either a 32GB or 64GB of solid state storage. It seems reasonable to suspect that Buffalo has a hand in supplying those modules.

Systems are expected to become available from mid-September and pricing is apparently set to be $699 (~£350) and $899 (~£450) for the 32GB and 64GB versions respectively.
